Gawharshad University, Freelance Photographer
Ramin Rahman is the Aga Khan University, Institute for the Study of Muslim Civilisation’s selected photographer for the Governance and the Pandemic platform. We welcome you to view some of his work on this platform. Here is more about Ramin in his own words.
“I was born in 1993 in Kabul, Afghanistan, and grew up in the capital. During my studies at Gawharshad University in Kabul, I discovered my passion for travelling. After some years, travelling gave rise to my second passion: photography.
I specialize in street photography and try to capture remarkably unique or common moments of daily life on the streets of Afghanistan. I am interested in looking at “the real” through distorted perspectives at times; while I also love the medium of photography to document the life of the common people; little and adult strangers; fellow humans moving and playing in streets and spaces of urban and rural Afghanistan.
I started with mobile photography and nowadays, work with digital cameras as I try to use new techniques that give me room to play in street photography making portraits, black and white photography as well as colored images. I exhibit my photographs occasionally in Kabul as I study and experiment with various techniques of lighting and exposure in street photography.
I am happy to share some of my images here with the Aga Khan University, Institute for the Study of Muslim Civilisations.”
